Closing Reflections - Anitopisi Student Leadership Program

After two-years, the Anitopisi Student Leadership Program has come to a close. Launched in 2020, Anitopisi is a co-curricular leadership program that is situated at the intersection of reconciliation and changemaking. In May April 2023 we completed the 2-year pilot and wanted to share some of our journey and learnings with you.

Anitopisi is a student leadership program that is situated at the intersection of reconciliation and changemaking. This hands-on learning experience will provide MRU students with the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills in becoming future reconciliation leaders. With the support of Elders and Indigenous knowledge keepers, students learn through land based, lectures, storytelling, creative arts practice and group activity.

Anitopisi was designed for students who at interested in:

  • Developing their leadership skills

  • Deepening their understanding of reconciliation and Right Relations

  • Changemaking and systems leadership

  • Building connections with people and place

  • Taking action to advance reconciliation in their own lives, communities, and careers

Throughout the program students explore how reconciliation can be used as a tool for systems change. Each cohort will have the opportunity to not just learn about reconciliation and changemaking, but to practice and live it outside the confines of the classroom, unrestricted by conventional learning structures. Each year, the cohort designs and implements a community impact project in partnership with an Indigenous organization/partner.

The Anitopisi Leadership Program will not be offered in Fall 2023. Please stay tuned for updates and additional student learning opportunities.
