Where We Are

As of October 2024, we are currently in the “Identifying Leverage Points” phase of the Literacy Lab.

What’s Been Happening

What’s been happening so far:

  • Lab Counsel Gatherings (April, June)

  • Two community workshops (with 50+ participants) to engage diverse voices and understand the systemic challenges of childhood literacy in Calgary (April)

  • Draft systems map

  • 1:1 interviews (May, June)

  • Teacher candidate workshop (June)

  • Research and document review by Student Lab Assistants

  • Conversation centering Indigenous perspectives and experiences with literacy

  • Integrated document research, interview data and Indigenous perspectives into the challenge map visualization and refinement.

  • Lab Counsel gathering (October)

What’s Coming Up

  • On October 3rd, we are hosting a Lab Counsel workshop focused on systems leverage.

  • On October 20th, we are hosting a community literacy mapping engagement workshop.

  • On November 14th, the Lab Counsel will convene to plan for Phase 2 of the Literacy Lab.
